All 4-H Shooting Sports instructors in California are being asked to attend a mandatory recertification meeting scheduled for April 11-12, 2026, at the 5 Dogs Range in Bakersfield. The meeting will run from 9 AM to 5 PM on Saturday and from 9 AM to 1 PM on Sunday.
This event is required for instructors to maintain compliance with National 4-H Shooting Sports minimum standards, which California has adopted. Instructors must be recertified every five years. Organizers have indicated that more information about registration and lodging will be provided soon.
A $40 registration fee will be charged to cover range fees, supplies, snacks, drinks, and lunch on both days. Instructors are encouraged to check with their local clubs or counties for possible assistance with travel and lodging expenses.
The agenda includes topics such as fundraising strategies for shooting sports projects, updates on UC and 4-H risk management policies, integrating STEM activities into programs, reviews of policies and minimum standards, Stop the Bleed certification training, mental health and suicide prevention discussions, range time, and breakout sessions by discipline.
