The California Department of Food and Agriculture (CDFA) announced its participation in a global initiative to recognize the role of women in agriculture during 2026, which has been designated as the International Year of the Woman Farmer.
In a statement, CDFA Secretary Karen Ross said, “We are proud to join the international community in recognizing and celebrating the contributions of women farmers. Their leadership is vital for sustainable food systems and resilient rural communities.”
This year-long observance aims to highlight the impact women have on agricultural production, innovation, and rural development worldwide. According to CDFA, women make up a significant portion of the agricultural workforce and play a key role in food security.
The initiative will include events and programs designed to raise awareness about challenges faced by women in agriculture and promote policies that support gender equity in farming.
Secretary Ross added, “By focusing attention on women farmers, we can encourage greater investment in their success and create more opportunities for future generations.”
