The California Department of Food and Agriculture (CDFA) has announced three vacancies on the Shell Egg Advisory Board, which operates under the Egg Safety and Quality Management Program. The board works with the program to monitor egg quality at production, wholesale, and retail levels. Their goal is to ensure that eggs sold in California are wholesome, properly labeled, refrigerated, and meet established quality standards while maintaining fair marketing practices.
The open positions include two industry members and one alternate member. These vacancies are due to upcoming term expirations, with each term lasting 36 months. To qualify for an industry member position, applicants must be registered California egg handlers or representatives of registered egg handlers.
Board members do not receive compensation but are reimbursed for transportation to meetings as well as per diem expenses related to lodging, meals, and incidentals.
According to the CDFA, “The advisory board plays a vital role in providing industry expertise to assist the Egg Safety and Quality Management Program.”
Those interested in applying should submit their resumes by January 1, 2026. Applications can be sent to Mrs. Penny Arana at the Meat, Poultry and Egg Safety Branch in Sacramento or via email at penny.arana@cdfa.ca.gov. Additional information about the program is available on the Egg Safety and Quality Management program’s webpage at http://www.cdfa.ca.gov/ahfss/mpes/esqm.html.
