The California Dry Bean Advisory Board is seeking applied research proposals for 2026. The initiative is sponsored by the California Dry Bean Marketing Order, which operates under the guidance of the California Department of Food and Agriculture (CDFA). The Board has a history of supporting university-led applied research.
Funding will be provided for one year. Projects that require more than one year must reapply annually. Due to limited funds, the Board encourages proposals that include cost-sharing elements.
A grant application and a list of research priorities have been made available to interested parties. For those looking for additional information about dry bean production in California or past funded reports, resources are accessible through the Agronomy Research and Information Center’s website at https://beans.ucdavis.edu/. Funded research reports can also be searched and viewed at https://beans.ucdavis.edu/publications-database.
The deadline for submitting proposals is Friday, February 13, 2026. Annual reports from last year’s funded projects are due on the same date.
Applicants should be ready to present their proposals briefly at the Board’s first meeting of the year, typically held in early March. “Funding decisions are communicated shortly thereafter by Board Manager, Nathan Sano.” Questions and submissions should be sent electronically to Michelle Leinfelder-Miles (mmleinfeldermiles@ucanr.edu) and Nick Clark (neclark@ucanr.edu).
