California Certified Organic Farmers announced on Apr. 14 a new partnership with OB People’s Food Co-op for the co-op’s Annual Meeting and Community Day, scheduled for Saturday, April 18 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM in the People’s parking lot. The event aims to bring together co-op members and the San Diego community to reflect on the past year, celebrate sustainable food, and connect over shared values.

The gathering will feature a keynote address by Thaddeus Barsotti, CCOF’s new Board Chair. Barsotti grew up on a small organic farm in Yolo County and later helped expand his family business into Capay Organic and Farm Fresh To You, now recognized as one of the largest operations of its kind on the West Coast. Organizers say his experience highlights how small-scale organic farming can grow into an enterprise that supports both communities and farmers.

Attendees can expect snacks from OB People’s certified organic produce and deli departments, beverages, special giveaways, as well as opportunities to engage with local organizations such as Feeding San Diego, Cans 4 Books, San Diego Environmental Services, and the San Diego River Foundation. The event also encourages food donations to support these groups. Leadership from OB People’s will discuss financial health and community impact during speeches at the meeting.

A key focus this year is supporting future organic farmers. OB People’s plans to announce a $5,000 donation toward a grant in 2026 aimed at aspiring organic farmers enrolled in U.S.-based programs that advance their careers. Community members are invited to contribute by donating at checkout throughout the second quarter of 2026.

OB People’s Food Co-op was founded in 1971 and has grown into a cooperative owned by more than 12,000 people. Its store offers certified organic produce alongside wellness products and an award-winning vegan deli bakery upstairs.

Tickets for the Annual Meeting are available through Eventbrite.
