The California Department of Food and Agriculture announced on April 6 that it is accepting applications to fill four vacancies on the Fertilizer Inspection Advisory Board’s Technical Advisory Subcommittee.
The subcommittee acts as a scientific panel providing guidance on efficient use of fertilizing materials and irrigation water. This group advises the Fertilizer Research and Education Program (FREP), helping set research priorities, reviewing proposals, and recommending projects for funding. The work supports improved nutrient and irrigation management in California agriculture.
According to the department, “FREP is seeking subcommittee applicants with recognized technical, applied and scientific expertise in the fields of agronomy, soil science, plant science, irrigation, production agriculture or environmental issues who are passionate about research and outreach that support improved nutrient and irrigation management in California.” The term for new members will be three years starting January 1, 2027. While these roles are unpaid, necessary travel expenses will be reimbursed under state guidelines.
Interested individuals should submit a Prospective Member Application Packet found on the subcommittee webpage along with a two-page resume or curriculum vitae by July 31. FREP is funded through an assessment on fertilizer sales; it finances research, education, and demonstration projects to promote proper use of fertilizers and irrigation water across agriculture sectors.
