Foster Farms has announced that its Organic Ground Turkey will now be available in more than 225 Target stores across the Western United States, including California. The company says this move is in response to increasing consumer demand for organic poultry products.

Foster Farms first introduced its branded Organic Ground Turkey in 2015 and has seen steady growth in both demand and distribution since then. According to TJ Johnson, director of marketing for Foster Farms turkey, “Adding Target as a retail partner is important to our growth strategy to give more families convenient access to our organic ground turkey products.” Johnson added, “We know that ground turkey is a favored staple for nutritious conscious consumers because of its versatility and naturally lean profile, so having an organic choice available is a win for shoppers and retailers.”

The Organic Ground Turkey offered by Foster Farms is 93 percent lean, USDA-certified organic, and raised free-range on organic land with an organic vegetarian diet. The turkeys are never given antibiotics. The product contains no added hormones, steroids, salt, chemicals or artificial enhancers. It will be sold in one-pound packages at Target locations with prices ranging from $6.49 to $6.99.

In addition to the new distribution deal with Target, Foster Farms Organic Ground Turkey joins the company’s fresh organic chicken line and No Antibiotics Ever turkey lunchmeat already available at the retailer.

Founded as a backyard turkey ranch in 1939, Foster Farms has expanded over the decades from producing whole turkeys for West Coast consumers to offering a complete line of fresh turkey products since 1993. The introduction of organic options began in 2015 with ground turkey and expanded further in 2016 with whole turkeys. According to IRI market research cited by the company, sales of organic ground turkey on the West Coast have increased by 325 percent while overall ground turkey sales have risen more than eight percent since 2014.
