Foster Farms is sharing advice to help home cooks prepare their Thanksgiving turkey. The company has launched a Turkey Tips webpage, which provides resources such as a roasting and grilling timetable, a step-by-step carving tutorial with slideshow, and a stuffing recipe from Foster Farms co-founder Verda Foster. These tools are designed to assist cooks of all experience levels in preparing their holiday meal.

Some of the tips offered include using food-grade containers for brining the turkey instead of aluminum, which can be corrosive. The brine solution should be refrigerated overnight to prevent the meat from absorbing too much salt.

The guidelines also emphasize the importance of using a meat thermometer. Boneless or ground turkey is fully cooked at an internal temperature of 165˚F, while bone-in turkey should reach 180˚F. For more detailed roasting and grilling times based on the weight of the turkey and whether it is stuffed or unstuffed, users are directed to consult additional online resources.

When making stuffing, it is recommended not to pack it too tightly inside the bird to avoid heaviness. Extra stuffing can be baked separately in an oven-proof dish until it reaches an internal temperature of 165⁰F.

Carving instructions advise leaving the wings on until both sides of the breast have been carved for stability. Wings should be removed by slicing into the joint that attaches them to the body while removing as much meat as possible.

Kitchen safety practices are also highlighted, including washing hands thoroughly, using separate cutting boards for raw meat, cooking turkey to safe temperatures, and refrigerating leftovers within two hours after cooking.
