Foster Farms has announced that its Smart Crust Pizza line is now Keto certified by The Paleo Foundation, an independent non-profit organization that sets standards for ingredients and foods aligned with the Keto Diet. This certification comes as National Keto Day approaches on January 5, a date established by The Vitamin Shoppe to raise awareness about the health benefits of the ketogenic lifestyle.
The Smart Crust Pizza is available in three varieties: Four Cheese, Uncured Pepperoni, and Uncured Bacon Club. Each serving contains four grams of carbohydrates and 25 grams of protein. The crust is made from chicken breast, egg whites, and cheese instead of traditional flour. The pizzas are sold at $5.99 per 8-8.5-ounce package and can be prepared in 15 minutes.
Recent consumer surveys conducted by Instacart and Kroger indicate a growing demand for keto-friendly comfort foods among shoppers who prefer preparing meals at home. The ketogenic diet focuses on higher fat and protein intake while limiting carbohydrates. It has been used by physicians to treat epilepsy in children and has applications for patients with Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diseases. Sales data show that the diet is most popular in Western states such as California and Texas.
“Consumers want gluten-free, low carb choices,” said Jennifer Corsiglia-Keim, Marketing Director at Foster Farms. “With Smart Crust, you get everything you love about pizza but without the carbs. What better to way to celebrate National Keto Day than with pizza joy, not pizza guilt?”
Smart Crust Pizza can be found in the personal size frozen pizza section at select supermarkets and Kroger stores across various cities including Los Angeles, San Diego, Seattle, Tacoma, Portland (Oregon), Salt Lake City, Denver, Tucson, Houston, Dallas/Fort Worth, Wichita, Indianapolis, Cincinnati, Columbus, Nashville, Raleigh-Durham, Richmond (Virginia), and Atlanta.
The Paleo Foundation was established in 2010 to help consumers identify paleo-, keto-, and grain-free products as part of sustainable lifestyles through certification programs.
