California Certified Organic Farmers announced on Apr. 21 that wine certified under the USDA National Organic Program “Made with Organic Grapes” standard, containing over 95% organic content, is now eligible for export to Korea under the U.S./South Korea equivalence arrangement. The update allows such wines, which may contain sulfur dioxide, to be labeled as either “Made with Organic Grapes” or “Organic Wine” when exported to Korea.
This change is reflected in the updated policies of California Certified Organic Farmers (CCOF), and aims to facilitate trade for U.S. wine producers seeking access to the Korean market. Exporters are required to submit their export labels for approval before shipping.
The announcement also includes clarification regarding labeling requirements for products exported to Japan. The Japanese Agricultural Standard (JAS) seal must now appear on both retail and non-retail product labels. This requirement can be fulfilled by a certified JAS importer or by a U.S.-based operation through a consignment contract with a JAS-certified importer.
These updates are intended to ensure compliance with international standards and help streamline export processes for organic producers in the United States.
