Rising sea levels and changing weather patterns are affecting the Mendocino County coastline, leading to concerns about the condition of local roads. The Mendocino Council of Governments (MCOG) has launched a Sea Level Rise Roadway Impact Study to examine how flooding, erosion, and other climate-related impacts are influencing county and city-managed roadways.
The study is supported by a Climate Adaptation Planning Grant from Caltrans. MCOG aims to identify which roads are most at risk and will select up to five sites for detailed planning and evaluation. Community input is being sought to help determine which areas should be prioritized for further study and solutions.
“Your input will help determine which areas to study and guide solutions to protect your community,” the organization stated in its announcement.
Residents are encouraged to participate in the survey to contribute their perspectives on which coastal roads face the greatest risks from sea level rise and severe weather events.
