The Society for Range Management (SRM) will hold its annual meeting in Monterey from February 7 to 11, 2026. The event is expected to draw ranchers, land managers, researchers, students, and agency professionals from the United States and abroad. This year’s theme is “Herd ‘Round the World: Celebrating Global Rangelands and Pastoralism,” focusing on common challenges and solutions across different grazing systems and regions.
Participants will have access to symposia and technical sessions covering topics such as grazing management, drought resilience, fire and fuels management, soil health, carbon and climate issues, invasive species control, wildlife coexistence strategies, and ranch economics. The conference aims to provide practical tools and case studies for producers and land managers. A Ranchers Forum will also be held for peer learning among ranchers.
California-based researchers and practitioners are scheduled to present their work at the event. This provides an opportunity for local professionals to share ideas with colleagues from other regions without leaving the state.
A key feature of the meeting includes field tours of sites like Pinnacles National Park and nearby rangelands. These tours are set to highlight working ranches, conservation grazing projects, public–private partnerships, as well as examples of grazing within park areas.
“Whether you manage a family ranch, work for an agency or land trust, or conduct rangeland research, the SRM conference offers opportunities to everyone for networking, and professional development. I encourage everyone from across the region to attend, if possible,” said organizers.
