UC Davis Department of Entomology announces winter seminar speaker lineup

The UC Davis Department of Entomology and Nematology has released the schedule for its winter seminar series, coordinated by Marshall McMunn for the 2025-26 academic year. The seminars will be held at 12:10 p.m. on Wednesdays in 122 Briggs Hall and will also be available via Zoom.

The lineup includes a range of speakers from both within UC Davis and other institutions. The series begins on January 7 with Mia Lippey, a doctoral candidate, presenting her exit seminar titled “Winners and Losers of Agricultural Arthropods under Global Change (an Ecoinformatics Approach).” Lippey’s major professors are Emily Meineke and Distinguished Professor Emeritus Jay Rosenheim.

On January 14, Amanda Hodson, assistant professor in the department, is scheduled to speak with her topic to be announced. Stacy Philpott, professor at UC Santa Cruz, will present on January 21; her title is also pending.

Lark Coffey, professor at the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine, will discuss “Reemerging St. Louis Encephalitis Virus in the Western United States and Fitness dynamics in California Culex” on January 28.

Cindy Kron from the UC Statewide Integrated Pest Management Program (UC IPM) is set to speak on February 4 about “Adventures of the North Coast Extension Entomologist.” Other speakers include Lena Mueller from the Salk Institute (February 11), Ben Nyman from UC Riverside (February 18), Jessica Aguilar from Stanford University (February 25), Todd Holmes from UC Irvine (March 4), Nazzy Pakpour from Yeast Bay Bio (March 11), and Crystal Homicz, a doctoral candidate giving an exit seminar on March 18.
