A ten-week webinar series aimed at helping crop producers transition to organic farming will take place from January 14 to March 18, 2026. The free virtual event is organized by the Community Alliance with Family Farmers (CAFF), the UC Organic Agriculture Institute (UC OAI), and UC Cooperative Extension (UCCE).
The series will provide weekly sessions featuring guidance from University of California specialists, farmers, and technical assistance providers. Topics include certification basics, recordkeeping, soil fertility, weed and pest management, market access, and preparing for inspections.
Spanish and Hmong interpretation services will be available for all sessions.
The first three weeks will focus on farmer experiences in transitioning to organic production, certification requirements, developing organic system plans, choosing a certifier, and understanding market channels and buyer expectations.
Weeks four through six will address allowed products and materials in organic farming, practices that support biodiversity and natural resources, as well as strategies for maintaining soil health and fertility.
The final four weeks will cover selecting cover crops, integrating them into nutrient management plans, managing pests and diseases organically, using ecological and mechanical methods for weed control, and preparing for organic inspections. An inspector/farmer panel is also planned.
